چکیده
HESS J0632+057 is one of only two unidentified very-high-energy gamma-ray sources which appear to be point-like within experimental resolution. It is possibly associated with the massive Be star MWC 148 and has been suggested to resemble known TeV binary systems like LS I +61 303 or LS 5039. HESS J0632+057 was observed by VERITAS for 31 hours in 2006, 2008 and 2009. During these observations, no significant signal in gamma rays with energies above 1 TeV was detected from the direction of HESS J0632+057. A flux upper limit corresponding to 1.1% of the flux of the Crab Nebula has been derived from the VERITAS data. The non-detection by VERITAS excludes with a probability of 99.993% that HESS J0632+057 is a steady gamma-ray emitter. Contemporaneous X-ray observations with Swift XRT reveal a factor of 1.8± 0.4 higher flux in the 1-10 keV range than earlier X-ray observations of HESS J0632+057. The variability in the gamma-ray and X-ray fluxes supports interpretation of the object as a gamma-ray emitting binary. VERITAS observations of HESS J0632+057
HESS J0632+057 is one of only two unidentified high energy gamma-ray sources which appear to be point-like in nature. It is possibly associated with the massive star MWC 148 and has been suggested to resemble known TeV binary systems like LS I +61 303 or LS 5039. These binaries are rare and extreme (only three TeV binaries are known to date), and their gamma-ray emission mechanism has not been ...
متن کاملHess J 0632 + 057 : a New Gamma - Ray Binary ?
The H.E.S.S. survey of the Galactic plane has established the existence of a substantial number (∼40) of Galactic TeV γ-ray sources, a large fraction of which remain unidentified. HESS J0632+057 is one of a small fraction of these objects which is point-like in nature (< 2 ′ rms), and is one of only two point-like sources that remain unidentified. Follow-up observations of this object with XMM-...
متن کاملThe radio counterpart of the likely TeV binary HESSJ 0632 + 057
The few known γ-ray binary systems are all associated with variable radio and Xray emission. The TeV source HESS J0632+057, apparently associated with the Be star MWC148, is plausibly a new member of this class. Following the identification of a variable X-ray counterpart to the TeV source we conducted GMRT and VLA observations in June-September 2008 to search for the radio counterpart of this ...
متن کاملDetection of Vhe Γ-rays from Hess J0632+057 during the 2011 February X-ray Outburst with the Magic Telescopes
The very high energy (VHE) γ-ray source HESS J0632+057 has recently been confirmed to be a γ-ray binary. The optical counterpart is the Be star MWC 148, and a compact object of unknown nature orbits it every ∼321 d with a high eccentricity of ∼0.8. We monitored HESS J0632+057 with the stereoscopic MAGIC telescopes from 2010 October to 2011 March and detected significant VHE γ-ray emission durin...
متن کاملVERITAS Observations of MGRO J1908+06/HESS J1908+063
The unidentified TeV gamma-ray source MGRO J1908+06/HESS J1908+063 was observed with the VERITAS Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Array during October 2007 and May-June 2008. This extended source is located on the galactic plane at a galactic longitude of 40.45 degrees and has a hard TeV spectrum with an index of Γ≈2.08 [1]. The Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray flux was measured by H.E.S.S. out to...
